The California Smokers’ Helpline is a FREE toll-free service available to anyone in the State of California. In addition to providing FREE telephone counseling in 5 languages and TTY/TDD, the Helpline also offers services specific to those who use smokeless tobacco/chew/dip.
Every counselor at the Helpline has received extensive training on tobacco cessation and military culture. For FREE services call: 1-800-NO-BUTTS or 1-800-844-CHEW (for smokeless tobacco) or visit their website.
The DoD (Department of Defense) has an interactive website for service members looking for more information about quitting tobacco: UCanQuit2. The website offers a live chat line with a tobacco cessation coach, a message board, information about medications, games and quizzes.
The VA (Department of Veteran Affairs) offers several resources including a quitline (1-855-QUIT-VET), in-person cessation counseling, and a mobile quit app for smart phones. These resources are generally available at no-cost to eligible veterans.
